Position : Part-time Wellness and Prevention Veterinarian
Reports to : Executive Director
Partners with : Clinic Manager
Compensation and Schedule:
Two days a week with Saturdays being an option.
$850 per day, first appointment at 9:00 a.m., last appointment at 4:00 p.m.. Appointments scheduled every 15 minutes. Assisted by a veterinary technician and two receptionists.
High volume spay/neuter surgical skill a bonus (25-30 animals a day) with opportunity to relief on days when not working in wellness. Surgical pay is $950 a day.
Compensation paid as 1099.
About ARC Spay & Neuter Specialists – ARC has been a nonprofit since 1999. We originally operated as a mobile spay/neuter clinic. In 2015, we opened a high volume, high quality spay/neuter clinic in Sarasota, FL. We serve the public and 35 rescue organizations in 22 counties. In 2025, our veterinary team performed 5,500 spay/neuter surgeries and administered thousands of life-saving tests and vaccines.
Job Summary
The Wellness and Prevention Veterinarian is responsible for delivering high-quality preventive veterinary care that promotes lifelong health and well-being for companion animals. This role emphasizes client education, early disease detection, preventive medicine, and personalized wellness plans while building long-term relationships with clients and their pets. The veterinarian collaborates with the veterinary team to provide exceptional patient care in a compassionate, efficient, and client-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive wellness examinations for canine and feline patients.
Develop individualized preventive healthcare plans based on age, lifestyle, breed, and health status.
Administer and recommend vaccinations in accordance with current veterinary guidelines.
Diagnose and manage common medical conditions identified during wellness visits.
Recommend and prescribe parasite prevention, nutritional plans, behavioral guidance, and weight management programs.
Educate pet owners on preventive healthcare, dental care, nutrition, disease prevention, and overall pet wellness.
Interpret laboratory diagnostics, imaging, and screening tests to identify early signs of disease.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with clinic policies and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with veterinary technicians and support staff to ensure efficient patient flow and exceptional client service.
Refer patients requiring advanced diagnostics or specialty care when appropriate.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with advances in preventive veterinary medicine.
Promote a Fear Free®, low-stress handling approach whenever possible.
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited institution.
Active Florida veterinary license.
Strong knowledge of preventive medicine, vaccination protocols, parasite control, nutrition, and client communication.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous professional development.
Experience in companion animal practice is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift animals up to 50 pounds with assistance when necessary.

Manual dexterity sufficient to perform examinations, diagnostics, and medical procedures.
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Working Conditions
Clinical veterinary practice with exposure to animals, zoonotic diseases, and medical equipment.
Compliance with all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards.
