Job Description

About Peer Minds

Peer Minds is a New York-based nonprofit dedicated to creating mental health spaces where culture is valued, honored, and integrated into the healing process. Our mission is to support Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian (MENASA) youth and adults through peer mentorship, culturally responsive wellness programming, and community connection.

Many individuals in our communities navigate stress, anxiety, trauma, identity challenges, and generational pressures without spaces that fully understand their cultural experiences. Too often, people feel they must explain or justify who they are before receiving support. At Peer Minds, we believe support should begin with understanding—not explanation.

Through trusted peer spaces, community conversations, educational programming, mentorship initiatives, and leadership development opportunities, we foster belonging, healing, and personal growth. Beyond support, Peer Minds is committed to building a pipeline of future mentors, facilitators, advocates, and community leaders who can strengthen the well-being of their communities and help others navigate similar challenges.

The Opportunity

Peer Minds is entering an exciting stage of growth and organizational development. As a young nonprofit, we are seeking dedicated, thoughtful, and mission-driven individuals to join our Board of Directors and help shape the future of the organization.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a growing organization at a formative stage, where your expertise, perspective, and leadership can have a meaningful impact on how we grow, serve our communities, and build for long-term sustainability. We are looking for individuals who are excited not only by our mission, but by the opportunity to help strengthen an emerging organization and guide its next chapter.

Current Board Opportunities

As Peer Minds continues to grow, we are seeking individuals interested in serving in both general board member and executive board leadership capacities.

Potential leadership opportunities may include:

  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Committee Leadership Roles
  • General Board Member Positions

Board and officer assignments will be determined based on organizational needs, professional expertise, experience, and mutual interest.

Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend and actively participate in quarterly board meetings
  • Provide strategic guidance and organizational oversight
  • Support the long-term sustainability and growth of Peer Minds
  • Serve as ambassadors for the organization within their professional and community networks
  • Offer expertise, insight, and constructive feedback on organizational priorities
  • Assist with identifying partnerships, resources, funding opportunities, and community connections
  • Support fundraising and resource development efforts
  • Uphold the mission, values, and best interests of the organization

Who We're Looking For

We are seeking individuals who bring a combination of professional expertise, lived experience, community leadership, and a genuine commitment to advancing culturally responsive mental health support.

As Peer Minds continues to build a thoughtful, engaged, and mission-aligned board, we are seeking individuals who are committed to actively contributing their expertise, leadership, and perspective to the organization's growth and sustainability.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Nonprofit leadership or governance
  • Fundraising and philanthropy
  • Finance, accounting, or financial oversight
  • Marketing, communications, or public relations
  • Legal, compliance, or human resources
  • Mental health, healthcare, or public health
  • Education and youth development
  • Community organizing and advocacy
  • Business development or strategic partnerships

We also strongly value individuals who have meaningful connections to MENASA communities and understand the importance of culturally responsive approaches to wellness, belonging, and community care.

Previous board experience is welcomed but not required.
